Written and directed by Fred Dekker, Night of the Creeps is a 1986 horror comedy film starring Tom Atkins, Jason Lively, and Jill Whitlow. The film features zombies, invasions by aliens, and slashers. The film features impressive makeup effects, and is a prime example of techniques that were new at the time such as stop-motion, prosthetics, and animatronics. Here are three things we love about the Night of the Creeps (1986).
The chemistry between Chris and Cynthia
The undeniable chemistry between the main characters of the movie makes it memorable. This is a scenario that does not happen often in the setting of many zombie come comedy films. From their first meeting point, it is clearly seen that the main characters have a deep crush on each other. Even with zombies attacking their friends, it doesn’t seem to bother them or distract from heir attraction to one another.
The comedy factor
There’s a lot to laugh at in this movie with a plot that is quite like any other! An alien experiment gone wrong results in slug-like creatures crashing on planet Earth and subsequently infecting the member of a fraternity. The chaos that ensues is anything but boring…Another source of laughs is watching Chris tirelessly trying to impress sorority girl, Cynthia.
The irony
The film is interesting from start to end. Early on in the film, Pam’s roommate asks her friend whether she has watched Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957). This movie was written and directed by Edward D. Wood Jr. and was released in the year 1959. It is ironic as later on in the movie, the house mother is seen watching the Plan 9 movie on TV.
Have you watched this film? If you have, we would like to hear from you. What were your most memorable moments from the movie?
